At first glance, Openguessr might look quite similar to Geoguessr, but when you have a closer look, you will realize that they are basically the same. They use the same formula - you are dropped in street view, somewhere in the world, and have to guess where you are. The closer you will get with your pin on the map to the original location, the more points it will give you.
The most important difference between the two is quite obvious - Geoguessr is a commercial game (you need to pay for subscription in order to play), while Openguessr is free to play. There are some tiny ads present on the screen, there is on option to obtain the tokens in exchange for watching an ad, but basically it is completely free.
Of course, there are other differences, a bit more subtle - Openguessr provides fewer options (f.e. you cannot just choose a pre-set map), but also there are more basic differences. In Openguessr the map is less curated, so quite often you can end up in the middle of nowhere, with no settlements for miles around, or on the most generic beach you can imagine. On the other hand, the street view in Openguessr displays names of the streets you are on, which could be a giveaway of what country you could be in.
Openguessr is a clone of Geoguessr, its history is much shorter, offers fewer features, but on the other hand it is free and the basic gameplay is more or less identical.

Geography game, in which you are dropped somewhere in the world in a Google street view and all you have to do is guess where the heck are you.

Game based on the videos taken in different parts of the world - all you have to do is guess the correct location.

Spot the difference between the two pictures - nothing more, nothing less. Oh yeah, and there’s a time limit!
