CD Projekt announced that an early stage of work on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has started and, to quote a classic, it’s déjà vu all over again.

With the announcement that the North American studios (in Boston and Vancouver) will be doing the heavy lifting in this project to make the world feel more "American", some details were "revealed". Among the things that might be included in the project (at least according to Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith) will be a second city that will "feel like Chicago gone wrong" and "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date". Hmm, where have I heard things like that before? Oh yeah, in marketing materials before Cyberpunk 2077 had its infamous premiere.
What else we can count on? "Memorable combat encounters" and "divergent experiences that cater to all available play styles". Yup, same BS, new shovel. For some unexplainable reason CD Projekt felt the urge to announce Cyberpunk 2 back in October 2022, they started a very early stage of the work on the project in May 2025 and it is planned to be published in late 2030 or early 2031.
So, to sum up, they announce the game almost 3 years before they even started to work on it, yet they know how long the production cycle will be, before it has even started. Is it me or CD Projekt did not learn a single thing from the most despicable and embarrassingly bad premiere of Cyberpunk 2077, a game that still is prominently present in almost every single video on GameSprout? I guess not. So for the next few years we can expect the "revelations" of what will or will not be present in the game that is still only a glimpse in the eye of its creators.

Cyberpunk 2077, new game from CD Projekt Red studio, premiered on 10th December 2020 and, just like rest of the year 2020, it was a painful experience. Although after about 8 years in production developers made history, I don’t think that was the way they wanted to do it.
Cyberpunk 2077, a game with one of the worst premieres in modern times, just became a Game of the Year! No, you didn’t wake up in some parallel universe, although... I’m not that sure to be honest.
After almost 2 years of empty promises and pointless roadmaps that never materialized it looks like CD Projekt RED finally gave up on saving the dumpster fire that Cyberpunk 2077 was. I mean they put up another patch.
Or to be precise slightly better. For some users. Yes, CD Projekt Red, finally came up with patch 1.5 and... it’s still far, far, far from what was expected from the game.
We are just 3 days into the new year and already you can look with nostalgia on good old 2022, when things were simpler. No, I’m not talking about war in Ukraine, possible war over Taiwan, possible resurface of COVID-19 in China, I’m talking about... oh god, I can’t believe I’m gonna say that... Logan Paul.
Times change and we change with them - simple ancient sentence that has a lot to do with game development. I know, you expect to find here the rambling of old man about how old games were better, right? You won’t be disappointed then.
