Back in 1980s and 1990s PBM (Play-By-Mail) football manager games were very popular in United Kingdom, but with the introduction of online games, and especially browser games, they lost most of its appeal. First of all they were expensive (f.e. 1,50£ per single round) and time consuming (single round per week was a standard). Both of those flaws were caused not by the creators, but by the medium they had to transfer data to and from players - the post. Introduction of e-mail communication switched them to PBeM (Play-By-E-Mail) model that saved a lot of costs of delivering paper turn sheets and match results, but also allowed users to play few round each week.

That is why it is amazing that today, when you can find number of browser games that will provide you with more entertainment and with much lower costs, games like Summit Soccer still exist. But some of them do. Summit Soccer is expensive, offers only 3 games per month, but for people, who look for the "old-school" manager games it still can be attractive offer. It is mixture of PBM and PBeM models, you can decide in what way you will be communicating with the game master and how you want to receive the results.

Summit Soccer offers all the basics options (selecting lineup, tactics, direct transfer offers), but also few additional options, like providing policing to control crowd during the match, improving stadium facilities or hiring club employees (coach, doctor, scout, promotion officer, youth team scout, groundskeeper). The game is expensive (3£ per single turn), but it is one of the rare examples of game that is active for over 20 years now.
