Title: The Dreamhold
Year introduced: 2003
Country of origin: United States
Languages: English
Price: free
The Dreamhold was created as an introduction game for new interactive fiction players (or to put is in a simpler way, text games). Andrew Plotkin created this short game as an easy way for new players, who know nothing about interactive fiction to get to know the basic rules typical for the genre. A tutorial voice will get you through the experience and will provide you with the tips that will get useful once you get into this kind of games.
But apart from that purpose, you can also play it as someone used to interactive fiction - if you type "tutorial off", you can skip the introduction and jump straight to the adventure. If you really need a challenge you can also try the "expert mode", which makes the puzzles even harder.

While walking through a city you stumble upon an alley that ends with a door without any handle. A text adventure that will take you into a surprising direction.
