Google AI project Genie 3 shook the gaming world and... it is hard to tell why.

Google Genie 3 shook the gaming world

Gaming companies stock values have dropped (supposedly) around 10% because of the news that Google AI project called Genie 3 allows you to generate the whole interactive worlds and explore them. And... that is it. I have absolutely no clue how those two elements are linked together.

Or perhaps there is an angle that I just don’t get. Perhaps we should examine this a bit further. An AI tool allows you to generate an interactive world. Ok, that sounds impressive. And you can "explore them", which is a bit ambiguous. Explore like... walking around them? What is interactive about it then? Can I manipulate the world or is it just randomly generated further and further?

Anyway, there is that world, you can "explore" it, it is somehow "interactive" and... No, still don’t understand what this got to do with gaming. Will Genie 3 crash the walking simulator genre? Or the lo-fi games? Because those are the only examples I can think of that could be threatened by this "revelation".

Either I’m dumb or the "investors" are clueless what makes game a game, because what was described in this story is a tool generating background for your game or story, but... where is the story? What is interactive about this world? Will it keep the world "alive" between the sessions? Will it be consistent in the world building? What is the ultimate goal of this world?

Nope, I’m still as clueless as I was at the beginning of writing this. The stocks of the gaming companies have tanked over a panic of investors regarding a tool that is not clearly linked to gaming... Fine, that is the conclusion, I guess.

Sam Altman is desperate now

Sam Altman, the "brain" behind introducing AI as a commercial product is getting really desperate and a bit detached from reality.

Sam Altman lied... again

Sam Altman, your favourite CEO of OpenAI, lied again. In other news, bears apparently do defecate mainly in the forested areas.

AI becomes more and more desperate

Yes, it is another round of not that smart people giving interviews and telling the masses that AI is gonna replace them all.

Microsoft, how can you be so, so bad?

Microsoft just rolled out its upgrade of their AI-based tool called Copilot. Or should I say "downgrade"? Because their users are somehow unhappy with the changes that were made, and it is another example of Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot without any reason to do it.

Brace yourselves, the revolution is coming!

The earthquake called restructuring of a beloved company seems to come to an end. After selling a few studios, laying off over 1300 people, cancelling some upcoming titles, the CEO of Embracer Group has come up with a bold strategy for the future - he is going to make better games!

About four weeks...

Yes, about four weeks. Maybe it is much, maybe it isn’t, it’s not really for me to judge. What am I talking about? About the period of time that really recognizable games can keep their audience interested. Again: what am I talking about? Yes, it’s Phasmophobia again, and Cyberpunk 2077 again. For the last time I hope.

Some people will never learn

Some people will never learn

CD Projekt announced that an early stage of work on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has started and, to quote a classic, it’s déjà vu all over again.

Steam is sinking

Steam is sinking

Steam has made some poor choices in the past, and it seems like they are coming back to bite them on the backside. And it is not even funny any more.
