Twitch is coming after view bots

At the end of July, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy announced that they are gonna take steps to remove view bots from the platform. Now they have and... the results are quite surprising.

Twitch is coming after view bots

The problem of view bots on Twitch is nothing new, but the decision to take real steps to eliminate them is something new. The view bots can be scripts that play the streams in a headless browser or emulate real viewers with fraudulent accounts. Although the symptoms are usually easy to spot - some accounts having a lot of viewers, but hardly any of them leave comments in the chat - so far no one could prove the scale of the problem. Until now.

Now, that the platform is trying to stop view bots, which not only are unfair competition between the streamers, but also could be seen as fraudulent when it comes to sponsorship deals, the cat is out of the bag. In recent days big names on the platform, such as Asmongold, XQC or slightly forgotten Mizkif, suddenly recorded significant drops in their viewing numbers, way below their average.

But that is not even the funniest thing about it, some other streamers suddenly decided to cancel or suspend their upcoming streams, which is just a pathetic way of trying to avoid admitting they do use view bots.

For the last time I hope.
